SHARPEN YOUR LIFE-SAVING CRITICAL-CARE SKILLS
Focusing on the clinical situations of highest concern to bedside intensivists, including the emergency evaluation of the patient with undifferentiated shock, the failed airway, refractory ARDS and obstetrical code arrest, this conference will bring participants up-to-date on rapidly evolving technologies such as point-of-care ultrasonography, ECMO, automated chest compression and pharmacogenomics. Your learning will be enhanced by cutting-edge educational techniques. Small teams of participants will manage complicated ICU simulations based on actual patient histories - each followed by interactive debriefing with clinical experts. Our workshops employ the most realistic simulation techniques. For instance, you will perform a surgical cricothyroidectomy on a fresh bovine trachea preparation, with a human cadaver specifically prepared for your anatomical consideration. You will perform ultrasonongraphy on live models. You will understand how ECMO works after getting your hands on the controls of an ECMO circuit running on a SynDaver™ – a highly sophisticated synthetic human body. Special Guest Speaker: Gregory A. Schmidt, MD Professor of Medicine, University of Iowa, Director of Critical Care UIHS Dr. Schmidt is an internationally-renowned speaker and expert in the fields of mechanical ventilation, extra-corporeal life-support, fluid resuscitation and critical care ultrasonography. Dr. Schmidt is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Chest, and is an editor of multiple textbooks including “Principles of Critical Care."
