After decades of uncertainty, the REVISE trial (Cook et al NEJM 2024) established that proton pump inhibitors as stress ulcer prophylaxis (SUP) reduce significant gastrointestinal bleeding in mechanically ventilated patients compared to placebo (1% vs. 3.5%, highly significant).
