"So [gasp, gasp] That's Where I Left Them!"

1:00 PM Tuesday 6/12/12: An NBC television affiliate is reporting that what appear to be a pair of lungs were found on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles at 8:30 pm on Sunday.

At this point, no one knows if the lungs are human -- or if not, what species they came from -- nor how they ended up in the middle of an L.A. sidewalk.

Sergeant Robert Dean of the LA County Sheriff's department told the L.A. Times: "We don't know what they are. It's really weird."

PulmCCM Central will keep you apprised with almost up-to-the-minute updates on this breaking story of the mysterious vivisected sidewalk-lungs.

Breaking News Update: Sidewalk Lungs Not Human; Aliens Not Ruled Out

7:35 PM Tuesday 6/12/12: The Huffington Post is reporting that after close examination, the L.A. County Coroner's office has determined that the slimy, glistening pair of disembodied lungs found on an L.A. sidewalk Sunday night are not human. I guess this wasn't the start of the Zombie Apocalypse, after all [sigh].

Lt. Fred Corral of the coroner's office said that after performing an examination Tuesday morning, he couldn't say what kind of creature the lungs came from. “They’re not of forensic value,” Corral told the L.A. Times. “We’re going to dispose of them.”

Wait a minute though! Shouldn't we at least rule out the possibility that they're alien lungs? Come on, guys -- do I have to think of everything?
