Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a synthetically produced derivative of the amino acid lysine. TXA reversibly binds to plasminogen, reducing its fibrinolytic action.

TXA’s FDA indications are limited to the prevention of heavy bleeding during tooth extraction in patients with hemophilia, and also for heavy menstrual bleeding.
