Murray & Nadel's Textbook of Respiratory Medicine is the undisputed heavyweight champion of references in pulmonology. (The double volume set actually weighs in at a svelte 13.6 pounds). When a new edition comes out -- like the brand-new 6th edition edited by V. Courtney Broaddus, now available -- it's a big deal. You can buy it today from the publisher, or Amazon, etc. (Note: This is a combo promotional post / favor for Courtney as a longtime supporter of PulmCCM. I did not get paid anything but I got a free copy of the book. See disclosure below.) Those who say "textbooks are obsolete" are mistaken, at least for this one: M&N is the best (only?) source for the integrated, deep knowledge of respiratory medicine that can't be gained from reading academic papers or websites like PulmCCM. The 6th edition of M&N also leaped into the digital age with an eBook powered by the Inkling platform, which allows full access on all your mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, Android, etc). I tried it: it's pretty cool. The digital edition will be continually updated in between hardcover editions. I bought the 5th edition of M&N with my CME stipend, and while I won't say I refer to it daily, I feel more confident knowing I can. Dr. Broaddus and I have corresponded by email since PulmCCM's first days, and it was a nice surprise to receive from her and the publisher a free copy of the new edition of M&N. (Disclosure: Courtney also tells me that the publisher is considering advertising on PulmCCM; all ads here are placed by a 3rd party and I have no knowledge of or participation in those discussions.) It was another surprise when their marketing team sent me a second copy, apparently accidentally. So I'm giving it away here. The sweepstakes will start 3 Aug 2015 at 0700 New York time, and will end at midnight on 15 Aug 2015. Contest is open to residents of the continental U.S. only: click the link below to enter. PulmCCM will pay for shipping to the continental U.S. only (shipping elsewhere costs more than the book itself). I have never used this sweepstakes website before. They seem reputable (I gave them my info), but you enter at your own risk, please read their terms & conditions, etc., etc.
