TBI - traumatic brain injury - occurs after an episode of head trauma as far as I am aware! TRAIN lumped together TBI with acute intracerebral haemorrhage and subarachnoid haemorrhage so it is a study of "acute brain injury" rather than TBI! Lumping at the very least complicates the interpretation of the results and makes me wonder what Hb to aim for in a "stroke" patient or a patient with SAH! Perhaps SAHARA, the results of which will be presented in December, may help but in the meanwhile being an "aging intensivist" I advise residents that "at the very least, the Hb should be greater than the age of the patient"!

You're absolutely right about that. I edited the post & headline to make more clear TRAIN's lumping of TBI with nontraumatic hemorrhages--which does muddy the waters. I wasn't aware of Sahara but now I have it on the radar. https://www.saharaprogram.com/sahara-trial
